CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 5 University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday, a 73-61 setback at Rogers State.
The Lions were held to a season-low in points and field goal percentage in the game.
UAFS tallied the opening basket of the game, but a 7-0 run gave the Hillcats a 19-11 lead. The Lions battled back to within two before RSU led by as many as 10 and had an eight-point lead going into the break.
After Rogers State extended the lead to a dozen in the opening minutes of the second half, the Lions went on a 12-3 run to trim the lead to 45-42 with just over 13 minutes remaining. Rogers State answered with a 7-0 run to once again lead by double figures.
UAFS made one last run to cut the deficit to five with under two minutes left, but was unable to get any closer as the Hillcats closed out the game at the line.
Guard Jack Hoth led the Lions with 11 points off the bench while guard Kanaan Holder added 10. The Lions finished with 37 bench points and 38 points in the paint.
The Lions will look to bounce back Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Central Oklahoma.
