Lions fall in overtime at Central Oklahoma

EDMOND, Okla. – No. 5 University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball suffered a 93-86 defeat in overtime at Central Oklahoma Saturday, dropping the Lions to 13-2 on the season. 

Down 77-68 with 3:33 left, the Lions went on a 12-0 run to take an 80-77 lead with 14 seconds left. Guard Brandon Scott had a pair of threes during the run while guard Jarren McAllister had the go-ahead basket. 

However, the Bronchos hit a three to tie the game with six seconds left. UAFS had one chance to win at the buzzer, but the shot hit off the front of the rim. 

In the extra period, the Bronchos scored the first four points before forward Kameron Johnson got the Lions on the board. With UCO leading 86-84, the Bronchos hit a three to up by five with 35 seconds left before closing out the game at the line. 

The Lions took their first lead at the 9:36 mark of the second half on a putback by guard VJ Reeves to go ahead, 57-56. The lead then traded hands three times until UCO hit a three for a 64-61 lead. UCO then had a 7-0 run before the Lions' 12-0 run. 

UAFS struggled from beyond the arc at just 24.2 percent while the Bronchos attempted 25 more free throws than the Lions. UAFS outscored the Bronchos, 50-22, in points in the paint and had a 45-33 edge on the glass, leading to 23 second chance points. 

McAllister led the Lions with 22 points and went 4-for-4 from beyond the arc while Scott finished with 19 points. Guard Christian Moore added 14 points and eight assists with Johnson tallying 12 points and eight boards. Forward Donovan Black had nine rebounds, with seven of the offensive variety. 

The Lions will return home to face Northeastern State at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Stubblefield Center.
