FORT SMITH, Ark. – No. 11 University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball matched its best start in the NCAA II era at 13-0 with a 90-83 win over Missouri Southern on Saturday at the Stubblefield Center.
Guard Brandon Scott scored a career-high 33 points and made eight threes, tied for the second most in a single game. Guard Christian Moore added 21 points, six rebounds and seven assists and two steals without a turnover, shooting 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Missouri Southern took a 32-24 lead after a 13-3 run but a pair of threes by Scott and a jumper by Jarren McAllister put the Lions back ahead, 36-35. Scott had six threes in the first half as the Lions closed the half on a 17-5 burst to lead 41-37 at the half.
The Lions flexed their muscle in the second half, using an 11-0 run to take their largest lead at 60-45. MSSU briefly cut the lead to five before a three by Moore put the Lions back up by 11.
Missouri Southern made one last run in the final minutes, but the Lions closed out the game with a three-point play and made five free throws.
Both teams shot it well from beyond the arc, as Missouri Southern finished 12-for-23 and UAFS finished 16-for-35.
McAllister was the third Lion to score double figures with 10 points while guard VJ Reeves added nine points and Kanaan Holder had seven.
UAFS next plays at Rogers State at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
