FORT SMITH, Ark. – No. 11 University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball shot just 30.0 percent in the second half as the Lions suffered their third straight defeat, 71-63, to Northeastern State Friday at the Stubblefield Center.
The RiverHawks had a one-point lead midway through the first half before the Lions ripped off an 8-0 run for a 26-19 advantage. The Lions extended the lead to 10 before NSU hit a late three as the Lions took a 34-27 lead into halftime.
UAFS held onto its lead until the 11:48 mark, and then quickly reclaimed the lead with four straight points. However, the RiverHawks went on an 18-5 run over the next six minutes as the Lions struggled to score.
Five points by guard Brandon Scott cut the deficit in half with 4:18 remaining, only to see NSU score five straight points of its own. UAFS cut it to six in the final minute but was unable to rally back.
Scott led the Lions with 21 points, the only Lion to score in double figures as they shot just 33.3 percent and 20.8 percent from three.
UAFS will look to get back in the win column Thursday as the Lions host Newman at 7:30 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
