Thurston named Lion Pride Female Student-Athlete of the Year

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Women's cross country runner Madison Thurston has been named the Lion Pride Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

The Student-Athlete of the Year award is given to a graduating student-athlete with at least a 3.0 GPA while excelling in the field of play.

Thurston scored in all six events for the Lions, leading the team in the four regular season events and was the second Lion to finish at the MIAA Championships and NCAA Central Regional.

She ran a 5k personal best of 19:20.4 at the Missouri Southern Stampede and then earned a medal for placing in the top 25 at the Chile Pepper Festival in a time of 19:22.3.

Thurston finished 11th at the Brian T. Simpson Invitational and then posted a personal best of 23:29.1 in the 6k at the NCAA II Central Regional.

Thurston graduated with a degree in Biology.
