ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball scored four runs in the ninth but the late rally wasn't enough as the Lions dropped game two of the series at Missouri Western, 6-4.
The Griffons led 6-0 after five innings as the Lions put multiple runners on in the first two innings but were unable to cross the plate.
UAFS then loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth and got on the board with a two-run single by designated hitter Jackson Down. The Lions then reloaded the bases with a single by infielder Noah Davis before adding a run on a double play.
Catcher Ryan Riggs doubled in Down to pull the Lions within two before the Lions loaded the bases once again with a single and hit by pitch, putting the tying run on second base. However, a strikeout ended the game and the rally.
Outfielder Sammy Seeger tallied three hits and a run scored from the leadoff spot while Riggs and infielder Matthew Schilling each had two hits.
Right-hander Austin Mitchell allowed six runs on six hits over five innings before Matthew Winters finished the game with three scoreless innings in relief.
