ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball was unable to get the bats going in the series finale at Missouri Western on Sunday, falling 5-1 in game three.
The Griffons put up three runs in the sixth and led 5-0 heading to the eighth, when catcher Ryan Riggs was hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI single by infielder Dakota Peters to put the Lions on the board.
UAFS had a chance to take the lead in the second, but the runner was thrown out at the plate on a Riggs single to end the inning. UAFS totaled five hits on the afternoon.
Brayden Ross got the start on the mound for the Lions, allowing five runs on nine hits over 6.2 innings with three strikeouts. Aden Almeida finished the game with 1.1 scoreless frames.
UAFS is back in action Tuesday at Northeastern State at 5 p.m. to conclude its series with the RiverHawks.
