FORT SMITH, Ark. – The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith tennis teams both extended their winning streaks to two matches as the Lions defeated Sterling College on Wednesday.
The women started the day with a 6-1 win followed by the second straight 7-0 win for the men.
UAFS earned the doubles point with a sweep, with Arianna De Bernardo and Taylor Conway capping it with a 6-4 win at No. 1. Sofia Tominaga and Antonietta Bocache teamed at No. 2 while Isabella Serrano and Gracie Pereff paired at No. 3 as each earned 6-2 wins.
The Lions won five out of six in singles playing pro sets, starting with Taylor Conway earning an 8-2 win at No. 2. Tominaga and Bocache each won 8-3 at Nos. 3 & 4, respectively, while Serrano won 8-1 at No. 5.
Pereff closed the match with an 8-4 win at No. 6.
The men took two of three matches to secure the doubles point. Juan Rosello and Anis Ramchane earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 with Eduardo Bribiesca and Rodrigo Hoppe claiming a 6-2 win at No. 2.
The Lions then swept singles action, with Bribiesca shutting out his opponent at No. 1, 8-0. Rosello won 8-3 at No. 2 while Ramchane claimed an 8-3 victory at No. 3. Hoppe and Killian Darneaux each won 8-2 at Nos. 4 & 5, respectively, while Kevin Praphan wrapped up the win with an 8-5 win at No. 6.
Both teams will be back in action Friday at Northwest Missouri State at 1 p.m.
