MARYVILLE, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Tennis saw its win streaks come to an end Friday, as the Lions were defeated by Northwest Missouri State.
The men suffered a 4-3 defeat in a match that went down to the wire while the women had a 6-1 setback. It was a MIAA match for the women but a nonconference match for the men.
Arianna De Bernardo and Taylor Conway won their fourth doubles match in a row, 6-4, at No.1, but the Bearcats won at Nos. 2 & 3 to take the doubles point.
Conway then scored the lone point for the Lions with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 2, her third win in a row. Antonietta Bocache battled in a three-set match but was defeated, 1-6, 7-5, 3-6.
In the men's match, UAFS took the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 1 by Anis Ramchane and Juan Rosello and a 6-3 victory at No. 2 by Eduardo Bribiesca and Rodrigo Hoppe.
Bribiesca and Ramchane earned the two singles' points for the Lions, with Bribiesca earning a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 while Ramchane won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.
Next up for the women is a match at Northeastern State Tuesday while the men are off until April 5 when they visit Harding.
