FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball struggled to find the bottom of the net Saturday, suffering a 64-56 defeat to Northwest Missouri in the home finale at the Stubblefield Center.
Guard Garrett Scott drained a corner three to put the Lions up, 10-9, early in the first half, but that was the only three the Lions made until the final minutes. Northwest proceeded to go on a 17-5 run over the next 10 minutes for a 26-15 advantage.
Down 13 at the break, the Lions opened the second half on a 14-3 run over the first eight minutes to cut the lead to two. However, the Bearcats responded with a 9-1 run to extend the lead back to double figures.
UAFS made one last gasp to cut the lead back to single digits in the final seconds but ran out of time to make a comeback.
Guard Elijah Wilson led the Lions with 20 points by going 10-for-11 from the free throw line while guard Tommie Williams added 14 points. The Lions shot just 27.6 percent overall and 8.7 percent from three.
The Lions had a 16-9 edge in points off turnovers and a 28-22 advantage in points in the paint.
UAFS will next visit Central Oklahoma at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the final week of the regular season.
