Men's Basketball hosts Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri for final home games

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball will conclude its 2024-25 home schedule this week as the Lions face Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State.

The Lions and Griffons will square off at 7:30 p.m. Thursday before the Lions take on the Bearcats for Senior Day Saturday at 3 p.m. The Senior Day presentation will take place prior to the game.

Both games will be streamed on the MIAA Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5. Live stats will be available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS defeated Washburn, 87-80, in overtime before suffering a 67-63 defeat to Central Missouri at the Stubblefield Center.

DOWN GOES #1: The Lions handed No. 1 Washburn their first defeat of the season, as the Ichabods came into the game at 22-0. It was the first win for the Lions over a ranked opponent since the 2020-21 season.

8: Guard Roland McCoy made eight threes in the win over Washburn, tying for the second most makes in a game in program history.

AOTW: McCoy was named the MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for his efforts against Washburn, where he led all scorers with 26 points.

RECORD WATCH: Guard Terrell Williams has scored 998 points for his career, needing just one basket to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

SCOUTING MWSU: The Griffons are 16-10, 7-8 MIAA and sixth in the MIAA KPI standings. Missouri Western leads the league in free throw percentage at 76.3 percent and limit opponents to just 29.9 rebounds per game. Guard Zane Nelson paces the Griffon offense with 14.2 points and 4.5 assists per game.

SCOUTING NWM: The Bearcats are in the midst of their worst season since the 1960s at 4-20, 2-13 MIAA. Northwest Missouri averages just 63.8 points per game, led by guard Emorie Knox at 12.0 points per game.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 1-0 against Missouri Western, a 73-58 win in 2017, while this will be the first-ever matchup between the Lions and Northwest Missouri State.
