Lions remain unbeaten with rout of Jets

WICHITA, Kan. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball used a 14-0 first half run and never looked back as it moved to 2-0 in the MIAA with an 89-59 road win at Newman Saturday.

Tied at 5-5, the Lions rattled off 14 straight points over a four-minute stretch to lead, 19-5. The Lions extended the lead to as many as 20 in the opening half before leading 47-29 at the break.

UAFS continued to build the lead in the second half, taking its largest lead of the game at 76-41 with 9:18 remaining.

The Lions shot 53.2 percent from the floor and 41.9 percent from three while connecting on 13 shots from distance. UAFS had a 34-16 advantage in points in the paint and 16-6 in fast break points.

Brandon Scott led the Lions with 19 points with four made threes as four players scored in double figures. Christian Moore added 15 points and six assists while Aiden Buckmon dished out five assists. UAFS had 23 assists on 33 made baskets.

Kameron Johnson chipped in with 10 points while VJ Reeves led a bench unit that scored 43 points with 11.

Defensively, the Lions held the Jets to 32.7 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from three.

UAFS returns to action December 12 at 6 p.m. against Ecclesia at Northside High School.
