Men's Basketball takes strong start into conference play

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball will look to build upon its strong start in nonconference play as the Lions begin MIAA play this week at Northeastern State and Newman.

The Lions will tip off at Northeastern State at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday before a 3:30 p.m. tip Saturday at Newman. Both games will be streamed on the MIAA Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions won their lone game last week, 95-92 in overtime at Henderson State.

BEST SINCE: UAFS is 5-0 for the first time since the 2017-18 season, when the Lions started 9-0.

RV: UAFS received six votes in the latest NABC Top 25 poll.

RUNNING POINT: Guard Christian Moore has had at least three assists in all five games this year and had five or more assists in three games. He scored eight of a game-high 23 points in overtime in the win at Henderson State.

BEYOND THE ARC: UAFS leads the MIAA in three-point percentage at 42.3 percent and opponent three-point percentage at 22.7 percent.

SCOUTING NSU: The RiverHawks are 5-2 having played six of their first seven games at home. NSU is third in the league with 16.7 assists per game with a 1.54 assist/turnover ratio. Guard Xavier Glenn leads the RiverHawks with 17.9 points per game.

SCOUTING NU: The Jets are 3-3 on the season averaging 87.3 points per game. Only one player averages double figures while 10 Jets are averaging more than 6.3 points per game.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 3-3 all-time versus Northeastern State and 13-9 against Newman.
