Men's Basketball gears up for trip to Newman, Emporia State

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball will visit Newman and Emporia State this week as the Lions search for their second league win.

Tipoff between the Lions and Jets is scheduled for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Wichita, Kansas, before the Lions square off with the Hornets at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Both games will be streamed on the MIAA Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: UAFS dropped an 82-69 decision at Northeastern State in its lone game last week.

BEYOND THE ARC: The Lions rank second in the league with 9.2 made threes per game.

45: UAFS is 7-1 when shooting above 45 percent on the year but 0-8 when not reaching that mark.

RECORD WATCH: Guard Terrell Williams Jr. is at 911 points for his career as he chases the 1,000-point mark.

SCOUTING NU: The Jets are 6-2 at home as they are 10-7, 3-5 MIAA on the year. Newman leads the MIAA with 39.8 rebounds per game and are led offensively by forward Aaron Murphy with 11.4 points per game.

SCOUTING ESU: Emporia averages just 69.5 points per game as the Hornets are 4-13, 1-7 MIAA and on a seven-game losing streak. Guard Malik Edward's Jr. leads three Hornets averaging double figures with 12.6 points per game.

THE SERIES: UAFS leads the all-time series with Newman, 13-8, while this will be the inaugural meeting against Emporia State.
