FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Tennis earned the No. 7 seed in this weekend's Lone Star Conference Championship and will face No. 2 seed UT Permian Basin in the quarterfinals Thursday.
The match is slated for 3:30 p.m. at the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas. UT Permian Basin is the LSC co-champion along with Midwestern State.
UAFS is led by the duo of Anis Ramchane and Killian Darneaux, ranked No. 41 in the latest ITA doubles rankings. The pair went 9-4 at No. 1 doubles this year and won their previous doubles match against UTPB. Ramchane also won his singles match against the Falcons.
Juan Rosello led the Lions with an 8-7 singles record this year at No. 2, with both him and Ramchane going 4-4 in conference play.
The tournament format is three, 6-game set doubles matches with a 7-point tiebreak at 6-all. Following doubles matches, teams will play six best-of-three set singles matches. Once one team reaches four points, remaining singles matches will be abandoned.
Semifinal matches are set for 1 p.m. Friday with the championship match at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The winner of the conference tournament will be named the LSC Men's Tennis Tournament champion and earn the league's automatic qualification to the 2024 NCAA Division II Championship. The regional selection show is scheduled for May 6 at 7 p.m. CT on NCAA.com. The South Central Regional will be held May 13-14 at sites to be determined, while nationals are set for May 21-25 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
