Davis collects four hits in series finale at LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball continued its torrid stretch at the plate to begin the season but came up a run short in an 11-10 defeat to Lubbock Christian in the series finale Sunday.

Designated hitter Dan Taylor hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to pull the Lions within one, but then went down in order to end the game.

Infielder Noah Davis led the Lions at the plate by going 4-for-5 with three RBIs, including driving in a run in each of the first two innings.

But the Lions played from behind for the entire game, as the Chaps scored three times in the first and two more times in the third.

Catcher Nico Patrick tallied an RBI single in the fourth, only for the Chaps to score a run in the bottom half of the frame. UAFS finally rallied to tie the game in the seventh with three runs, capped by RBI singles from Davis and Patrick.

However, the Chaps added two runs in the bottom of the seventh to go back up by two. Outfielder Brandon Ulmer drove in a run with a double in the eighth, but once again the Chaps scored twice in the bottom half.

Jakob Petross got the start on the mound for the Lions, while Luke Davenport suffered the tough-luck loss in relief.

UAFS has now scored in double digits in eight of 12 games this season.

The Lions return home next weekend to face defending national champion Angelo State at Crowder Field.
