Three tally double figures in scoring at ENMU

PORTALES, N.M. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball wrapped up the road portion of its schedule Saturday, dropping a 92-85 decision at Eastern New Mexico.

Guard Payton Brown led three Lions in double figures with 28 points, shooting 8-for-16 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. He also went 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Guard Roland McCoy added 18 points and five assists while guard Cameron Bush had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Lions and Greyhounds went back-and-forth, totaling 11 ties and 12 lead changes. The Lions led 53-46 before the Greyhounds went on a 13-1 run early in the second half. But the Lions fought right back, going on an 8-0 run to go back up by three.

After trading the lead three times over the next few minutes, ENMU led 81-79 with 5:32 left before going on an 8-0 run to lead by double digits. A three by McCoy cut the deficit to six with just over a minute left but the Lions were unable to get any closer.

UAFS had an 11-0 run in the first half to open up a 15-7 lead and led 42-40 at intermission. Brown had 16 of his 28 points in the first half.

The Lions finished at 40.8 percent shooting for the game while the Greyhounds finished at 44.4 percent.

UAFS closes out the regular season at home Friday against Oklahoma Christian at 7:30 p.m.
