Bush, Brown power Lions over Eagles

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball used an 8-0 run in the final four minutes of regulation to take down Oklahoma Christian, 81-75, in the regular season finale at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.

Guard Cameron Bush started the run with a jumper to tie the game, then dished out an assist to guard Roland McCoy for a three for a 69-66 lead with 2:48 left. Guard Payton Brown closed out the run by connecting on three free throws.

The Eagles cut it back to 73-71 with just over a minute remaining, but the Lions went 8-for-8 from the line down the stretch to close the game.

Brown led the Lions with 30 points, including an 11-for-11 night at the charity stripe. Bush tallied his first career double-double, recording 17 points and 11 rebounds. Bush added four assists and four steals, as well.

McCoy was a third Lion in double figures with 16 points and six boards. Forward Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu had seven points and five rebounds in his final collegiate game.

UAFS trailed by as many as 12 in the first half after the Eagles went on a 12-2 run, but the Lions closed the half on a 7-1 spurt to go into the locker room down six.

With the Eagles up eight early in the second half, Brown hit back-to-back threes to pull the Lions within two. McCoy hit a three to trim the deficit to one, then his triple with 2:48 left gave the Lions their first lead of the game.

UAFS went 22-for-29 from the line while the Eagles were just 9-for-14. UAFS won the turnover battle, 19-8, and had a 24-7 advantage in points off turnovers. The Lions also had 15 fast break points.
