FORT SMITH, Ark. – Guard Payton Brown scored a game-high 33 points but University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball dropped a 95-81 decision to St. Mary's at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
Brown finished 11-for-18 from the field with a pair of threes and went 9-for-11 from the line. He added four rebounds and two steals, as well.
UAFS trailed by double digits in the first half and was down 37-23 with 6:55 left in the opening stanza. However, the Lions were able to trim that deficit in half going into the locker room.
The Lions used a 12-0 run early in the second half to take a 56-52 lead, with Brown scoring seven points during the run. The Lions extended the lead to six at 61-55 before the Rattlers evened the game at 63 apiece.
The teams traded the lead over the next three possessions until the Rattlers later used an 8-0 run to go back up by double digits.
UAFS outscored the Rattlers in the paint, 46-32, but the Rattlers had a 22-11 edge in fast break points.
Guard Cameron Bush was the only other Lion in double figures with 10 points as each team shot over 50.0 for the game. Forward Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu added nine points off the bench while guard Jaden Monday added eight.
UAFS embarks on its final road trip of the season next week starting with a visit to Western New Mexico February 22.
