OKLAHOMA CITY - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball earned its first series sweep since 2021 as the Lions run-ruled Oklahoma Christian Saturday, 12-2.
Outfielder Michael Brinton went 4-for-4 with three runs and a pair of RBIs while infielder Matt Schilling went 3-for-4 with a run and five runs driven in. UAFS collected 15 hits on the afternoon and had at least 13 hits in all four games.
The Lions scored a pair of runs in the first off of bases loaded walks, with Oklahoma Christian then tying the game in the bottom half of the frame.
With two outs in the second, infielder Noah Davis sparked a four-run inning with an opposite field solo homer. Three batters later, Brinton doubled in a pair and then scored on an RBI single by Schilling.
After scoring an unearned run in the third, the Lions scored three times in the fourth off a two run-single by Schilling and an RBI groundout by infielder Jordon Helm.
UAFS then added single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings on RBIs by Schilling and infielder Dakota Peters. Peters, Davis and outfielder Blayse Quarnstrom all had two hits in the win.
Luke Davenport pitched four scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win, allowing just one hit and striking out four. Lefty Jacob Loflin started on the mound, surrendering two runs – one earned – on one hit and two walks over three innings. He struck out one.
UAFS will host St. Mary's for its opening series at Crowder Field February 16-18. First pitch of the series is Friday at 1 p.m.
