Men's Basketball to open MIAA play Tuesday

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball tips off MIAA action this week as the Lions are set to host Northeastern State and Newman as they make their MIAA debut.

The Lions will take on the RiverHawks at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday before facing the Jets at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Both games will be streamed on the MIAA Network and broadcast on Fox Sports Radio 103.5 with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions went into the holiday break off a 78-74 road win at Quincy last week.

CRASH THE GLASS: UAFS is third in the MIAA with 38.0 rebounds per game, second with 12.0 offensive rebounds per game and third in rebounding margin at 6.7.

LEAGUE OPENER: The Lions are 6-9 in conference openers since 2009.

2ND HALF: The Lions have outscored their opponents in the second half of every game this season by an average of 7.0 points.

50: UAFS has shot better than 50.0 percent in all three of its wins this season and under 50.0 percent in its losses.

SCOUTING NSU: The RiverHawks are 4-3 after winning their last two games and boast the league's leading scorer in guard Trey Phipps at 25.7 points per game. NSU scores 85.3 points per game and shoots the three at a 40.0 percent clip.

SCOUTING NU: The Jets are 4-2 to start the season but just one of those wins came against an NCAA II opponent. Newman is averaging 87.0 points per game with only one player averaging double figures but nine scoring more than seven points per game.

THE SERIES: The Lions are 3-1 against Northeastern State and 13-7 all-time against Newman.
