Lions trounce Crusaders in Education Day game

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball capped its inaugural Education Day game with an 89-58 win over Dallas Christian Monday at the Stubblefield Center, entertaining more than 700 local elementary school students.

The Lions shot 50.8 percent from the field and raced out to a 19-5 advantage in the first seven minutes. After the Crusaders pulled back within six, the Lions grew the lead to as many as 23 points in the first half before leading 47-29 at the break.

Dallas Christian played the Lions even for the first 15 minutes of the second half before the Lions closed the game on a 16-1 run, holding the Crusaders without a made field goal the final 5:54.

Guard VJ Reeves shot 4-for-6 from beyond the arc for a team-high 16 points while guard Garrett Scott added 13 points and three assists. Guard Elijah Wilson gave the Lions three in double figures with 12 points and three assists, as well.

The Lions had 21 assists on 30 made baskets and had a 17-1 edge in fast break points.

UAFS closes out its nonconference schedule Saturday against Drury at 1 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
