TYLER, Texas – Guard Payton Brown became the seventh Lion in the D2 era to score 1,000 career points, but University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball lost an 80-67 decision Saturday at UT Tyler.
Brown now has 1,002 points for his career.
UT Tyler started the game on a 12-0 run, putting the Lions behind early. UAFS cut it to 25-15 midway through the first half but was unable to get any closer.
Forward Ryan Maxwell led the Lions with 15 points as they shot 52.7 percent from the floor. Guards Roland McCoy and Jaden Monday each tallied 10 points, with Monday dishing out a team-high four assists. Forward Jace Linenberger recorded eight points and seven boards.
Turnovers were costly for the Lions, as 17 turnovers led to a 23-8 advantage in points off turnovers for the Patriots.
The Lions will be back in action at the Stubblefield Center January 11 at 7:30 p.m. against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
