DALLAS – Four players scored in double figures but University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball was unable to slow down No. 6 Dallas Baptist Thursday, falling 99-79 to the Patriots as the teams resumed Lone Star Conference play.
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor, with the Lions finishing at 50.9 percent and the Patriots at 50.7 percent.
UAFS got off to a fast start, using a 7-0 run to take an 11-8 lead after a breakaway dunk by forward Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu. UAFS then kept pace with the Patriots for most of the first half until DBU closed the first half on a 12-4 run to lead the Lions 47-35 at the break.
Guard Payton Brown led the Lions with 19 points off the bench on 6-of-10 shooting overall and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc while guard Roland McCoy added 15 points. Cadeaux de Dieu chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds and guard Cameron Bush tallied 11 points for the Lions.
UAFS had its best game of the year from the free throw line, going 14-for-15 from the charity stripe.
DBU took advantage of 18 Lion turnovers, recording a 24-10 edge in points off turnovers.
Next up for the Lions is a visit to UT Tyler at 3 p.m. Saturday.
