FORT SMITH, Ark. – Guard Drew Miller scored a career-high 22 points as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball was defeated by Eastern New Mexico, 71-63, Saturday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
Miller scored 13 of his 22 points in the final 8:57 of the game. He shot 4-for-9 from beyond the arc and 6-for-8 at the free throw line while also adding five rebounds. Miller and guard Payton Brown combined for 43 of the 63 points, as Brown finished with 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
The Lions started strong, taking a 7-2 lead over the first three minutes.
But turnovers were too much to overcome, as the Greyhounds went on an 8-2 run for a 20-12 lead. ENMU forced 20 turnovers and had 12 steals, leading to a 27-12 edge in points off turnovers.
The Lions regained the lead at 26-25 on a three by Brown, but the Greyhounds answered with a 6-0 run. Brown scored 16 points in the first half.
ENMU led by eight at the half and by as many as 17 in the second half. A three by Miller drew the Lions within 66-61 with 1:39 left, but the Greyhounds scored on the ensuing possession and ended the game with yet another steal.
The Greyhounds made just one three, but outscored the Lions in the paint, 46-22.
UAFS closes out the regular season Thursday against Oklahoma Christian at 7:30 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
