Brown records fifth 30-point game against St. Mary's

SAN ANTONIO – Guard Payton Brown put together his fifth 30-point game of the season Saturday, but University of Arkansas – Fort Smith was on the wrong end of an 83-67 defeat at St. Mary's.

Brown finished with exactly 30 points on 8-of-14 shooting and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. He was 9-of-11 from the free throw line, as well.

Brown connected on a three on the second possession of the game to tie it at 3-3, but it was all Rattlers from there. St. Mary's went on a 10-0 run and took a 35-19 lead into halftime.

Despite shooting 73.7 percent in the second half, the Lions were unable to cut into the St. Mary's lead as the Rattlers shot 70.4 percent themselves. Each team scored 48 points in the second half.

UAFS finished at 55.0 percent shooting for the game while St. Mary's finished at 64.2 percent. The Rattlers doubled up the Lions in points in the paint, 44-22.

Guard Cameron Bush tallied 11 points, four rebounds and two assists while guard Evan Anderson had eight points.

The Lions return home for their final three games of the season, beginning with Western New Mexico at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
