HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Cross Country completed its final tune up before the postseason by running at the UAH Chargers Invitational Saturday morning.
The women finished 25th of 41 teams with 718 points while the men were 33rd of 45 teams with 954 points.
Every runner ran a season-best time while six personal bests were set on the men's side and two on the women's side.
"Today was a win for both squads," Head Coach Mason Rhodes said. "We couldn't have asked for a better outcome today. The goal all season was to be at our best when we get to the LSC Championships, and this race showed that we are almost there."
Rachel Malik paced the women's squad with a 98th-place finish in the 5k in a time of 19:16.20. Hailey Malik was 157th in 20:04.20 while Zoe Nesbit was 166th in 20:12.30.
Jennifer Martinez and Madison Thurston rounded out the top five in 29th and 227th, respectively.
Parker Brown led the men in the 8k race by placing 200th in 26:48.10 while Corey Maxwell was right behind in 204th in 26:49.90.
Isaac Teague was the third Lion to cross the line in 27:49.90 in 278th with Eko Tuel and Tyreek Gilkey finishing back-to-back in 324th and 325th to round out the to five. Tuel finished in 28:40.50 and Gilkey in 28:44.90.
UAFS will have two weeks off before the LSC Championships October 21 in Portales, New Mexico.
