FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith cross country teams each earned a top-10 finish in the Prairie Fire Pepper races at the annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival Friday.
The women finished 10th out of 34 teams with 289 points while the men finished 10th of 38 teams with 326 points.
Rachel Malik paced the women's team with a 17th-place finish in a 5k time of 19:02.6 while twin sister Hailey Malik was right behind in 22nd in 19:07.7.
Zoe Nesbitt was the third Lion across the line in 70th, finishing in a time of 20:04.0. Camille Lear followed in 89th in 20:25.9 with Quincy Efurd rounding out the top five for the Lions in 115th in 20:46.2.
Rounding out the lineup for the Lions was Shaddy Gonzalez (21:08.9), Saylor Vera (21:42.3) and Megan Thompson (22:24.2).
Carlos Hernandez broke his own school record in the 8k as he earned a top-five finish in 25:45.3.
Lawson Douglas and Jordan Foster finished 63rd and 68th, respectively, in 27:05.0 and 27:10.7. Oskar Minick crossed the line in 95th in 27:43.7 while Joaquin Alva completed the top five for UAFS in 105th in 27:57.1.
Corey Maxwell and Eko Tuel were the final point scorers for the Lions in 28:05.2 and 28:16.7, respectively.
Next up for both teams is the DBU Old Glory Gallup October 15 in Dallas, Texas.
