Lions split with Aggies on yet another walk-off

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball walked off with a victory for the third time this season, winning 4-3 on a walk-off walk in game one before settling for a split with a 12-3 loss in the nightcap against Cameron.

The Lions and Aggies will conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Crowder Field.

UAFS 4, Cameron 3

Second baseman Mac Moody drew a two-out bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh as the Lions earned their third walk-off win of the season. UAFS had loaded the bases with no outs, but the Aggies turned a double play when the Lions were unable to execute a squeeze play.

The Lions held a 3-1 lead entering the top of the seventh and had the Aggies down to their final out, but a misplayed fly ball allowed two runs to score and the Aggies tied the game.

UAFS took the lead in the third by scoring twice without a hit, scoring one run on a balk and a second on an RBI groundout by catcher Trevor Brown.

Cameron got a run back in the fourth to make it 2-1 before UAFS extended it back to two runs in the fifth when outfielder Hunter Church scored on a wild pitch. Church led the Lions at the plate with a hit and two runs scored.

Starter Brayden Johnson was within one out of a complete game and exited with 6.2 innings pitched with six strikeouts. All three runs he allowed were unearned on four hits.

Cameron 12, UAFS 3

Outfielder Kinner Brasher went 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored but it wasn't enough as the Aggies took the nightcap.

After Cameron took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, Brasher hit a one-out homer down the right-field line to pull the Lions within 2-1.

However, the Aggies broke the game open with three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth. They then added two more in the seventh for a 12-1 advantage.

UAFS scored twice in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded walk by third baseman Brooks Sunny and an RBI fielder's choice by Moody.

Starter Logan Grant was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits in five innings of work. He struck out seven.
