Four tally three hits as Lions top Greyhounds

PORTALES, N.M. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Baseball collected 17 hits as the Lions topped Eastern New Mexico, 13-4, in the series finale Sunday at Greyhound Field.

Four players recorded three hits - led by catcher Nico Patrick - who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

UAFS got the scoring started right away in the first inning when outfielders Kinner Brasher and Zach Slunder led off the game with a pair of singles. Brasher scored after a sacrifice bunt and passed ball, while Slunder came around on an RBI double by third baseman Brooks Sunny.

The Greyhounds took the lead at 3-2 after a single run in the second and two in the third until the Lions tied it at 3-3 in the fourth on an RBI single by Patrick.

Dylan Rollins settled down in the fourth inning in his first start of the year, finishing his outing with five consecutive scoreless innings. He allowed just three baserunners over those five innings. He earned the win after pitching eight innings, allowing just three runs on eight hits with four punchouts.

The Lions broke the tie in the sixth on an RBI single by Brasher and would go on to score in each of the final four frames.

Two runs scored on RBI singles from shortstop Noah Davis and Patrick in the seventh before the Lions scored five times in the eighth. Davis and Patrick were once again responsible for driving in a pair of those runs.

UAFS added two more runs in the ninth, including one on a wild pitch. It was the third run of the game the Lions scored on either a passed ball or wild pitch.

Others to collect three hits were Brasher, Davis and outfielder Hunter Church. Church and Slunder scored three times each, while both Davis and Brasher scored twice.

UAFS is back at Crowder Field March 25-27 to host Cameron University.
