Men's Basketball visits MSU, DBU to conclude regular season

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball will look for revenge from a pair of one-point losses from earlier in the season when it visits Midwestern State and Dallas Baptist to close the regular season.

The Lions and Mustangs will tip at 7:30 p.m. Thursday with the Lions set to face the Patriots at 2 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions split their final home games of the regular season, dropping a 70-66 decision to Angelo State before defeating UT Permian Basin, 78-67.

HOT SHOOTING: UAFS shot a season-high 60.8 percent in the win over UTPB.

LEAGUE LEADER: Guard Matthew Wilson continues to lead the Lone Star Conference in scoring at 20.3 points per game. He is third with 3.3 made threes per game and is sixth at 41.5 percent from beyond the arc.

HELPING HAND: Guard Evan Anderson is fourth in the LSC with 4.7 assists per game and is first in the league in assist/turnover ratio at 3.5, which is fifth nationally. UAFS is second with a 1.32 ratio.

RECORD WATCH: Senior guard Matthew Wilson sits 5th with 1,206 points at UAFS. Wilson also is 5th in field goals made (431), fourth in three-pointers made (194) and sixth in assists (186). Forward Chris Rollins is sixth in rebounds with 443, 11th with 729 points and is tied for sixth in blocks (40). Guard Evan Anderson is 5th in assists with 231.

LSC TOURNAMENT: UAFS is sixth in the LSC standings heading into the final week of the regular season. The top four seeds receive a bye in the 12-team tournament with opening round games on campus on March 1. The remaining rounds will take place March 3-6 at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.

WE MEET AGAIN: Both games were decided by a single point when UAFS faced the Mustangs and Patriots in December at the Stubblefield Center. MSU pulled out a 63-62 win, while DBU won 68-67.

THE SERIES: Both series are tied when factoring in this season's results. The Lions and Mustangs each have four wins apiece, while the series with DBU is tied, 13-13.

SCOUTING MSU: The Mustangs are 12-14, 8-6 LSC and have won four straight home games. Forward Jermane Carter leads MSU with 14.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. MSU is third in the league in opponent field goal percentage at 42.0 percent.

SCOUTING DBU: The Patriots are second in the LSC at 17-9, 10-4 LSC. Guard Cameron Kahn leads four Patriots averaging double figures with 12.5 points per game and 5.2 boards per game.
