FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Baseball had a pair of costly errors lead to two Angelo State runs as the Rams defeated the Lions, 13-3, Saturday at Crowder Field.
ASU scored their first run of the game on a throwing error in the second, then added two runs in the fourth on a fielder's choice followed by another throwing error.
The Rams extended the lead to 7-0 in the sixth with three more runs.
UAFS got its first hit in the sixth on a single by second baseman Mac Moody, who later scored on a wild play after a single by designated hitter Kyle Shaffer.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Rams blew it wide open in the ninth by batting around and scoring six times.
The Lions added two runs themselves in the ninth on an RBI double by pinch hitter Kaleb Thompson and an RBI groundout by catcher Nico Patrick.
Lukas Petross allowed four runs – three earned – over 4.2 innings on the mound. He gave up five hits while striking out four.
The Lions and Rams conclude the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Crowder Field.
