EDMOND, Okla. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball snapped its four-game losing streak to Oklahoma Christian with a 63-53 road victory at the Payne Athletic Center Monday.
Four players scored in double figures for UAFS, which never trailed in the game. Guard Evan Anderson paced the Lions with 16 points, while guards Payton Brown and Cameron Bush each had 12 points. Forward Connor Slater added 10 points, five boards and three assists off the bench.
UAFS scored the first eight points of the game, before the Eagles rallied with the next eight to tie the game. Free throws for both teams knotted the game at 10-10 before a layup by forward Jaxon Ingram gave the Lions the lead for good.
The Lions extended the lead to 27-13 after going on an 11-0 run and then led 39-26 at the break. Anderson and Brown each scored 10 points in the first half.
The lead grew to as many as 19 as UAFS scored the first six points out of the locker room, but the Eagles got back within single digits on a 10-0 before guard Courtney Murrell ended the run with a three.
UAFS would lead by double digits for all but 30 seconds the rest of the way as it shot 46.7 percent from the floor. The defense held OC to just 12.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Slater and the Lion bench held a 19-6 advantage while the Lions also won the battle on the glass, 30-26.
The Lions are back at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center after the holiday break as they host Dallas Baptist December 30.
