LSC Cross Country Championships set for Saturday

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Cross Country is slated to run in the Lone Star Conference Championships Saturday at River Creek Golf Course in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Fourteen men's teams and 15 women's teams are set to run in the 8k and 6k events, respectively. The men's race starts at 9:30 a.m. with the women's race to follow at 10:30. Both races plus the awards ceremony will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network. Live results will be available at uafslions.com.

The top 15 finishers in each race will earn All-LSC honors while the top finishing freshman and newcomers will also be honored.

Both teams are looking to build off the success they had during the regular season, where both teams set individual school records and each team bested its overall team averages.

Carlos Hernandez has improved his time in each race this season, posting an 8k time of 24:54.0 in the UAH Chargers Invitational in leading the Lions in all five meets this year. Lawson Douglas and Jordan Foster have been the second and third Lions to cross the line in each of the last four meets.

Freshmen have paced the women's team, as Rachel Malik has led the Lions in each of the four races she has run this season while Zoe Nesbitt was the top finisher in the first meet of the year. Malik ran a school record 18:05.6 in her debut meet at the Missouri Southern Stampede.

Twin sister Hailey Malik has not been far behind while Nesbitt has also earned a pair of top three finishes for the Lions. Kari Sosa has come back strong after missing the first three races to be the second Lion finisher in each of the last two races.

The men's team is seeking its first top 10 finish at the LSC Championships while the women go for their second top 10 showing.
