UAFS to host Ozarks in home opener Thursday

FORT SMITH, Ark. - University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Men's Basketball will host its home opener Thursday as NCAA III foe University of the Ozarks will make the short trip from Clarksville to Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.

Tipoff against the Eagles is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Free admission will be given to those who wear their gray UAFS Basketball t-shirt they received at a camp this summer. Following the game, players will be signing their 2022-23 schedule posters.

UAFS will then travel to Henderson State Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip as part of a doubleheader.

Thursday's game will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network as well as broadcast on Fox Sports Radio FM 103.5. Live stats for both games and live coverage of Saturday's game can be found on uafslions.com.

NOTES:

LAST WEEK: The Lions dropped a pair of games at the South Central Region Crossover to Black Hills State and Metropolitan State – Denver.

BROWN RETURNS TO FORM: Guard Payton Brown scored 33 points against MSU – Denver and leads the Lions with 23.0 points per game after two games.

HOME OPENER: UAFS is 12-1 in home openers in NCAA II competition. The Lions will open their home slate against Ozarks for the second consecutive year.

RECORD WATCH: Guard Evan Anderson is seventh with 108 career made threes. He is fifth with 238 career assists.

SCOUTING UO: Ozarks is 3-0 to start their season, with each of their last two wins coming by at least 20 points. Guard Tylan Jackson is averaging 22.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the Eagles while guard Grayson Nix is averaging 16.0 points per game.

SCOUTING HSU: The Reddies are 1-1 with a win over Washburn and a loss to Minnesota State – Mankato on opening weekend. Guard Franck Kamgain leads HSU with 14.5 points per game while forward Tomislav Miholjcic is averaging 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES: UAFS is 2-0 all-time against Ozarks and 3-1 versus Henderson State.
