Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Roadrunners rally past Lions in overtime

OKLAHOMA CITY – Guard Payton Brown poured in 33 points but it wasn't enough as Metro State – Denver rallied to defeat University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball, 91-86, Saturday at the Payne Athletics Center in the finale of the South Central Region Crossover.

UAFS had its largest lead of 15 points twice in the second half, leading 65-50 with 11:29 remaining. However, the Roadrunners switched their defense to zone and a full court press as they began their comeback.

After MSU cut the deficit to four with 4:44 left, guards Evan Anderson and Cameron Bush responded with back-to-back baskets to extend the lead to 77-69. But the Roadrunners scored the next eight points over the next 1:42 to tie the game.

Bush connected on a jumper on the ensuing possession and then came up with a block on the defensive end, but the Lions were unable to add to their lead. The Roadrunners then tied the game with a pair of free throws and the Lions' shot on the final possession rimmed out to force the extra period.

Overtime featured four lead changes, with Bush giving the Lions an 86-85 lead with 1:18 left. However, the Roadrunners made a three on the next trip down the court and the Lions were unable to answer, as MSU closed out the game at the free throw line.

Brown made seven threes in the contest – including one to end the first half to give the Lions a 41-33 lead – and finished 12-of-23 from the floor. Forward Connor Slater shot 7-for-10 from the field and totaled 17 points.

Bush tallied 12 points and three assists, while forward Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu added 10 points. Forward Jaxon Ingram pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, while Anderson chipped in with eight points and six assists.

UAFS shot 50.0 percent from the field and 92.9 percent from the foul line.

The Lions will host University of the Ozarks Thursday in their home opener at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
