JOPLIN, Mo. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Women's Cross Country faced arguably its toughest competition of the year Saturday, running at the Missouri Southern Stampede.
Multiple top teams from NCAA II competed along with a handful of NCAA I schools in the 5k event.
UAFS totaled 645 points against the stiff competition to finish 23rd of 26 schools.
The field featured 252 runners, with Kandace Young leading the Lady Lions with a 51st place finish in a school-record 5k time of 18:29.26. Joyce Ferguson was next to cross the line, placing 153rd in 19:50.71.
Quincy Efurd placed 192nd, Aubrey Byers 202nd and Megan Thompson 215th to round out the top five for UAFS.
The sixth and seventh scorers for UAFS were Lourdes Castro in 219th and Saylor Vera in 232nd, respectively.
UAFS will have next weekend off before competing in the Chile Pepper Festival October 2 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
