OKLAHOMA CITY – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball was unable to add to its momentum after an upset win over Dallas Baptist, as the Lions dropped a 76-70 contest at Oklahoma Christian Tuesday night.
Trailing 34-32 at the break, the Lions (4-10, 4-10 LSC) were never able to regain the lead in the second half. UAFS pulled within a point at 45-44 with 14:25 remaining, but the Eagles (5-11, 5-11 LSC) built the lead up to eight by the halfway mark of the period.
Guards Matthew Wilson and Payton Brown each hit one of their three triples apiece in the final five minutes to pull the Lions within five twice, but that was as close as they would get down the stretch.
The first half featured four ties and six lead changes, with the Lions jumping out to multiple three-point leads. A three by Wilson gave the Lions a 29-28 advantage two minutes before the break, but it would be the last lead for the Lions.
Brown led the Lions with 24 points, while Wilson and senior forward Chris Rollins each added 15 points. Rollins notched his sixth double-double of the season by pulling down a career-best 13 rebounds. Both Brown and sophomore guard Evan Anderson contributed four assists, while freshman forward Justus Cooper had five.
The Lions held the Eagles to 37.5 percent shooting in the first half, but the Eagles caught fire in the second, shooting 53.3 percent.
OC held the advantage in the hustle categories, outscoring the Lions in points off turnovers, second chance points and fast break points.
UAFS will conclude the regular season Friday and Saturday at the Stubblefield Center by hosting St. Edward's University. Friday's tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
