Lions rout Royals with balanced attack

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Guard Matthew Wilson continued his early season scoring surge by dropping 27 points in a 93-50 win over Ecclesia College Tuesday at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.

Wilson was 10-for-22 from the field and 6-for-14 from beyond the arc to lead four Lions in double figures. Forward Chris Rollins added 17 points and seven rebounds by going 5-for-6 overall and 7-for-10 at the line.

UAFS continued to shoot the ball well as a team, shotting 52.4 percent for the game. The Lions shot 50.0 percent in the first half and 55.2 percent in the second. UAFS was just as good defensively, holding the Royals to 28.1 percent. The Royals scored just 14 points in the first half on 14.3 percent shooting.

The Lions trailed by one at the first media timeout before embarking on a 15-0 run over the next five minutes. They then closed the half on a 14-0 run over the final five minutes of the half.

UAFS would lead by as many as 45 in the second half.

UAFS dominated the points in the paint, 36-16, and points off turnovers, 21-6. The Lions forced 17 turnovers while only turning it over four times.

Guard Evan Anderson served as a catalyst for the offense, dishing out seven assists.

They UAFS bench outscored the Ecclesia bench, 44-7, getting 10 points apiece from guard Daryl McElrath and forward David Ekezie. Ekezie did not miss a shot going 3-for-3 from the floor and 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.

The Lions play the final home game of its six home games in seven games stretch Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Midwestern State.
