FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss Thursday to Dallas Baptist at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center, falling 68-67 to the Patriots, snapping its four-game win streak.
A back-and-forth affair featuring 11 lead changes and nine ties, UAFS broke a 53-53 tie with a 6-0 run on a dunk by forward Braden Boyer and a pair of jumpers by guard Matthew Wilson. However, the Patriots responded with a 9-0 run to take a 62-59 lead over the next four minutes following a timeout.
The Lions then retook the lead at 63-62, but the Patriots would score on ensuing possessions. Trailing 66-63, the Lions made one of two free throws and Patriot guard Ricky Lujan would then ice the game with a pair of free throws. A Wilson three at the buzzer made the final margin a one-point game.
After shooting just 28.6 percent in the first half, the Lions bounced back by shooting 50.0 percent in the second half to finish at 38.9 percent overall.
Wilson led UAFS with 25 points and six rebounds while knocking down five triples. Forward Chris Rollins scored 15 points by shooting 9-for-10 from the free throw line. Guard Evan Anderson was the third Lion in double figures with 13 points and five assists.
Guard Courtney Murrell led the Lions with seven rebounds.
The Lions outscored the Patriots 12-8 in second chance points, but the Patriots had a 34-20 advantage in points in the paint and 14-8 in points off turnovers.
UAFS looks to get back in the win column Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. as it hosts Ecclesia College at the Stubblefield Center.
