Anderson nets career high to hand Patriots first loss

TYLER, Texas – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball used a 12-0 run over the final 2:35 to close out an 85-72 win at UT Tyler Thursday, handing the Patriots their first loss of the season at the Herrington Patriot Center.

UAFS led 65-54 at the under eight media timeout, but the Patriots tied the game at 67 less than three minutes later.

The Lions regained a four-point lead, and after a made UT Tyler three with 2:35 left, the UAFS defense held the Patriots without a basket the rest of the way.

UAFS led 37-34 at the break and later used a 13-3 run to lead 59-46, its largest lead of the game.

A back-and-forth first half, neither team led by more than six. The game featured nine ties and 10 lead changes overall.

Guards Evan Anderson and Matthew Wilson each led UAFS by scoring 21 points apiece, as the Lions shot 72.7 percent in the second half. The 21 points are a career high for Anderson. Both players made eight field goals and shot over 50 percent, as the Lions shot 57.4 percent overall.

The duo also combined for 13 of the team's 18 assists, with Wilson distributing seven dimes and Anderson six.

Forward Chris Rollins added 15 points and nine rebounds and went 7-for-7 at the free throw line. As a team, UAFS was 19-for-23 at the charity stripe.

Guard Cameron Bush contributed 11 points off the bench.

The Lions dominated the points in the paint, outscoring the Patriots, 44-20. They also doubled up the Patriots in bench points, 26-13. Defensively, they held the Patriots to 37.7 percent shooting.

UAFS wraps up the first semester Monday at Texas A&M – Commerce at 4 p.m.
