FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball will host its home opener Thursday, taking on NCAA III opponent University of the Ozarks at 7:30 p.m. at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center.
UAFS will also host Henderson State Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center.
Both games will be broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network as well as KHGG-FM 103.5 with live stats available at uafortsmithlions.com.
NOTES:
LAST WEEK: UAFS opened its 2021-22 season in Denver as part of the Lone Star/Rocky Mountain Challenge. It lost its season opener, 77-62, to Black Hills State before falling, 60-54, to host MSU – Denver.
HOME OPENER: The Lions are 11-1 in home openers since becoming an NCAA II member in 2009-10.
SECOND CHANCES: UAFS ranks third in the LSC with 13.5 offensive rebounds per game. The Lions have turned those into 28 second-chance points through two games, including 20 versus MSU – Denver.
RECORD WATCH: Guard Matthew Wilson ranks 10th in program history with 744 points, six behind Brian Halums. He is also ninth in field goals made (266) and sixth in made three pointers (120).
THE SERIES: UAFS won the only matchup against Ozarks back in 2009, winning 87-65. The Lions and Reddies have faced off three times, with the Lions going 2-1 in those games.
SCOUTING UO: Ozarks is 0-4 this season after winning the 2020-21 American Southwest Conference championship. Guard Grayson Nix leads the Eagles with 17.0 points per game, while guard Kamren Roelke averages 15.3 points. No other player averages more than five. Nix and Roelke also lead UO in rebounding.
SCOUTING HSU: The Reddies are 1-1 after the first weekend of the season, and host Texas College prior to Saturday's contest. Three players average double figures for HSU, led by guard Alvin Miles' 11.5 points per game. Three players also average at least six rebounds per game, as well.
