UAFS eager for home opener versus Commerce

 

FORT SMITH, Ark. – University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Men's Basketball will get its first opportunity to play in front of its home crowd this week, as Texas A&M-Commerce visits the Stubblefield Center Friday. UAFS will then make the return trip to Commerce Sunday.

Tipoff for Friday's game will be 5:30 p.m., while Sunday's matchup will tip at 4 p.m. General admission tickets for Friday's game can be purchased at the UAFS Box Office. A&M-Commerce is not selling tickets to the general public, as only family members will be allowed at the Field House.

Both games can be seen on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with the purchase of a daily pass for $10. Live stats will also be available on uafortsmithlions.com.

NOTES:

LAST TIME OUT: UAFS picked up its first win of the season after splitting a pair of games at UTPB. After dropping the opener, 77-67, the Lions bounced back for an 81-74 victory.

HOME OPENER: The Lions had their home opening series against No. 3 West Texas A&M postponed due to COVID-19 protocols, so Friday's matchups versus A&M-Commerce will be the team's first game at the Stubblefield Center this season. The Lions have won their past five home openers, dating back to the 2015-16 season.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The last time the Lions played at least four games before its home opener was the 2016-17 season, when they played five, all neutral-site games.

THE STUB: UAFS has an impressive record of 123-38 in the Stubblefield Center during the NCAA II era.

66.7: Senior forward Chris Rollins leads the Lone Star Conference in field goal percentage, as he is shooting 66.7 percent from the floor through the first four games of the season.

22: Senior forward Chris Rollins has scored exactly 22 points in three of the four games this season.

SCOUTING A&M-COMMERCE: Commerce is 2-2, 1-1 LSC to begin the season after splitting a pair of games against St. Mary's. Ten players are playing more than 10 minutes per game for the Lions, who are led by senior guard Devin Bethely's 13.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

THE SERIES: In this Lion on Lion matchup, Commerce leads the series, 3-2. The teams split their series in the regular season last season, while Commerce won in the opening round of the LSC Tournament, 77-73.
