UAFS baseball team has concluded home series with a loss but have recorded another series win as the Lions fell to the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico by the score of 6-7 to conclude the weekend 3-1. The Lions are now 12-6 overall on the season and in conference play.
In this game Eastern New Mexico scored the first run in the first inning taking the 1-0 lead over the Lions. In the third inning, Lions scored their first run on an error by opposing short stop. Eastern New Mexico took the lead again on a homerun in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning Lions spiced things up as
Tristan Kalina tripled to the center field driving
Max Frazier,
Nolan Riley and
Dylan Hurt in to put the score at 4-2. Kalina himself increased the lead to 5-2 as Flake singled to the center field.
Morgan Crenshaw then singled to the center field and drove Balentine in to set the score at 6-2.
Between the sixth and ninth inning, the Greyhounds fought back and scored five more runs taking the lead at 7-6 at the top of ninth, of which two came with two outs.
Bottom of the ninth inning Lions lost the game on a runner interference called on
Ryan Flake.
Offensively the Lions scored six runs on nine hits in 36 at bats. UAFS was led by
Tristan Kalina with two hits, one run and three RBIs while
Ryan Flake added four hits and one RBI.
On the defensive side of things Lions had six different pitchers with three of them pitching in the ninth inning. As a squad, Lions' pitchers allowed 12 hits, seven runs while striking 13 players out.
UAFS baseball team will continue their season next week as the Lions travel to Edmond, Okla. to take on Oklahoma Christian in another four-game series starting on Friday at 4 p.m. Live stats and live video stream will be available for all games.
