UAFS baseball team split the series against UT Tyler on Saturday as the Lions dropped the first matchup 4-8 and then bounced back in the second game of the series to win by the score of 9-8 after 13 innings of play. In both games UT Tyler started out strong and while they were able to conclude the first game after leading as much as 8-2 in the sixth inning, Lions managed to make a big comeback in the second game even though they were down by 7-0 at the top of the fourth inning.
Game 1: UAFS 4, UT Tyler 8
UAFS started out slow and allowed UT Tyler five runs in the first three innings.
Dylan Hurt recorded his first career home run to drive
Tristan Kalina in to put the Lions on the board. After that, the Lions allowed three more unanswered runs before they finally scored at the bottom of the eight innning to record the final score for the game (4-8).
Four different players scored one run each for the Lions on total of eight hits.
Dylan Hurt led the Lions with one run on one hit and two RBIs. As a team the Lions also recorded 15 strikeouts.
Five different players pitched for the Lions in this game led by
Cooper Van Kooten who recorded two strikeouts.
Game 2: UAFS 9, UT Tyler 8
In the second game UT Tyler scored the same amount of runs as in the first one, but the Lions never gave up and fought back and eventually defeated the Patriots by the score of 9-8 after 13 innings of a tough battle.
The Lions did not score their first run until the bottom of the fourth inning when Powel singled to the left field, driving Kalina in for the first run of the game. At that point the Lions were down 7-1 but they never gave up. In the following three innings the Lions scored another six runs concluded by the one from
Brooks Sunny, driven by
Morgan Crenshaw's single hit to the left field.
Since then, the Lions and the Patriots did not allow any runs until the 13th inning when Roach scored for the Patriots. Once again, the Lions fought back and as the bases were loaded first tied the game up as Easley walked and then concluded the comeback win as Kalina scored on an error.
Tristan Kalina led the Lions with four runs and two hits and one walk while
Dylan Hurt scored two runs and recorded one hit. As a team, the Lions scored nine runs on nine hits and added nine RBIs to their overall stats.
Foster Pace recorded his second win of the season (2-0).
