UAFS men's basketball team has lost a hard-fought conference game on the road as the Lions fell to Western New Mexico by the score of 67-76. The Lions were led by junior
Matthew Wilson with 30 points on 11-21 shooting from the field and 7-14 shooting from the three point line while Halums added 22 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
The Lions are now 9-12 overall on the season and 5-10 in conference play as they begin the all-time series against the Mustangs with a loss.
Offensively, the Lions scored 67 points on 48.9 percent shooting from the field, 50 percent shooting from the three point line and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe. The Lions were led in scoring by Wilson (30), Halums (22), and
Evan Anderson with 11 points. UAFS also distributed 17 assists and were led by
Charles Botchway (5).Â
On the defensive end of things, the Mustangs scored 76points on the Lions while shooting 45.5 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the three point line and 76 from the free throw line. The Lions grabbed a total of 24 rebounds (1-23), with Halums, Botchway and
Chris Rollins grabbing six each. UAFS also forced 10 turnovers and scored 9 points off those while also recording 7 steals, led by Wilson (2).Â
UAFS men's basketball team will continue its weekend on the road as the Lions now get to travel to Odessa, Texas to take on UT Permian Basin at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Falcon Dome. Live stats and live video broadcast will be available for this game.Â
