UAFS baseball team has recorded two more wins on Saturday and secured series win ahead of the final match on Sunday at noon. The Lions swepts the doubleheader, defeating the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico 2-1 in the first game and 7-3 in the second game. The Lions improve to 12-5 overall record on the season and 7-3 record at home.
Game 1: UAFS 2, ENMU 1
In this low scoring game, Lions drew the first blood in the first inning as
Logan Easley singled up the middle and drove
Dylan Hurt in. The Lions waited untill the sixth inning to score again as
Cash Balentine singled up the middle and drove
Brooks Sunny in for 2-0. Finally, Eastern New Mexico scored in the seventh, concluding the game at 2-1 for the Lions.
UAFS was led by
Logan Easley who recorded two runs and one RBI. As this was a low-scoring game, the highlights were mostly tied to the pitching staff. As a team, the Lions had four hits and two runs on 19 at bats.
Brayden Johnson led the pitching staff allowing one run and four hits while also striking out eight opponents. He pitched all seven innings and earned his first win of the season (1-0).
Game 2: UAFS 7, ENMU 3
In the second game the Greyhounds were the first one to score in the second inning. UAFS answered with three runs in second and one run in the fourth innings by
Max Frazier,
Tristan Kalina and
Cash Balentine twice. Eastern New Mexico scored in the sixth innings to put the score at 4-2 and then
Brooks Sunny singled up the middle driving Hurt in while Frazier singled to the left field to drive Sunny in to set the score at 7-2. Greyhounds scored on more time in the seventh innings to set the final score at 7-3.
As a team, UAFS recorded seven runs on 11 hits in 26 at bats. The Lions were led by
Brooks Sunny with one run, two hits and three RBIs while
Max Frazier added one run, two hits and one RBI.
Trevor Johnson pitched the entire game for the Lions (seven innings), recording six strikeouts and allowing three runs and 12 hits. He also recorded his first win of the season (1-1).
