Lions Sweep The First Doubleheader Of The Weekend Against UT Permian Basin

UAFS baseball team has recorded two valuable wins at home as the Lions defeated UT Permian Basin in both games of Friday's doubleheader at Crowder Field. The Lions started out the day winning the first game by the score of 6-4 and concluded the day with the second win by 2-1. The Lions are now 8-4 on the season and have improved their overall home record to 3-2. 

Game 1: UAFS 6, UTPB 4

The Lions opened the first game slow, giving up four runs to the Falcons. The Lions fought back scoring three runs of their own, starting with Nolan Riley's walk which drove Tristan Kalina in. Following that play Logan Easley singled, driving Dylan Hurt in while Crenshaw's walk drove Brooks Sunny in, setting the score at 4-3. After the first inning, the Lions and Falcons were on a scoring drought untill the sixth inning when UAFS scored three runs to take the lead and set the final score for the game.

As a team, UAFS recorded six runs on nine hits at 25 at bats. The Lions were led by Tristan Kalina with two runs and three hits while also recording one RBI. Brooks Sunnny also added one run and two runs with one RBI in three at bats. 

On the pitching side of things, Drew Young pitched all seven innings for the Lions recording his third win of the year (3-1). Young gave up only three earned runs on five hits. 

Game 2: UAFS , UTPB

The second game of the of the day did not feature much scoring, but the Lions took the win on a clutch performance at the bottom of the ninth inning. UT Permian Basin scored the first run in the second inning and led the entire game until Cash Balentine walked with bases loaded to help the Lions tie the game up at 1-1. Baxter Mays scored the first run for the Lions.

As the bases were loaded once again, Morgan Crenshaw was hit by a pitch which drove Max Frazier in to conclude the Lions comeback win by the score of 2-1. 

The Lions as a team scored two runs on only two hits and were led by Max Frazier with one run and one hit on two at bats. 

Brayden Johnson pitched seven strong innings recording 13 strikeouts while allowing only one run on five hits. Cameron Highfill took over in the eighth inning and recorded four strikeouts while allowing only one hit to conclude the game and score his first win on the season. 

UAFS baseball team will be back in action with another doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1:30 p.m. at Crowder Field. Live stats and live video stream will be available for this doubleheader.
