Lions Split The Doubleheader Against the Falcons, Win The Series

UAFS baseball team has split the Saturday's doubleheader as the Lions lost the first game to the Falcons by the score of 4-5 and then bounced back in the second game to win by the score of 7-6. The Lions have overall won the weekend series against the Falcons by 3-1 and are now 9-5 overall on the season. 

Game 1: UAFS 4 , UTPB 5

The Lions started off well in the first inning as Kalina scored on Morgan Crenshaw 's single to the left field to put his team up by 1-0. The Falcons waited until the fourth inning to strike back and hit a homerun on which they scored three runs. The Lions fought back again and scored another run Daniel Demondesert earned a sacrifice fly to drive Baxter Mays in. Once again, UTPB came back with another two runs which proved to be enough for the Falcons to secure the win. 

The Lions scored one more run in fifth and sixth inning apiece to set the final score at 4-5. 

As a team the Lions scored four runs on seven hits in 24 at bats. UAFS was led by Baxter Mays with two runs and two hits while Kalina and Hurt added one run and one hit each. 

Trevor Johnson recorded his first loss of the season while allowing six hits and five runs in six innings while Cooper Van Kooten pitched only one inning and allowed one hit and no runs. 


Game 2: UAFS 7, UTPB 6

The Lions started out the game allowing their opponents two runs in the second inning. However, they responded immediately and scored two of their own in the same inning as Morgan Crenshaw singled to the left field driving Cash Balentine and Tristan Kalina in. At the top of the fourth, the Lions gave up four runs as the Falcons set the score at 6-2. 

From fourth inning on, Lions rallied back with two runs in the fifth, one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh inning which concluded the game at the score of 7-6. 

As a team, UAFS scored seven runs on 14 hits in 33 at bats. The Lions were led by Morgan Crenshaw with four hits in five at bats while also adding two runs, including a homer in the sixth inning, and three RBIs to his record. Brooks Sunny also added three hits in five at bats while Tristan Kalina and Cash Balentine added two hits and one run each. Kalina also earned an RBI in the fifth inning. 

UAFS pitching staff held their opponents to six runs on seven hits. Foster Pace recorded his third win of the season (3-0), while allowing only one hit and no runs and recording six strikeouts in 3.2 innings he pitched.

UAFS baseball team will continue their season with another home event as they get to host Eastern New Mexico next weekend at Crowder Field during the 2020 UAFS Homecoming festivities. The Lions will be looking to build off this week's momentum as they continue their fight against tough competition in Lone Star Conference.
