UAFS baseball team has split the doubleheader on the road today as the Lions defeated Tarleton State Texans in the first game of the doubleheader by the score of 11-9 and then lost the second one by the score of 6-2. The Lions have thus improved to 6-3 on the season and 5-1 on the road so far in the season.
Game 1: UAFS 11, Tarleton 9
Tarleton State started off furiously in the game 1 from the very beginning, earning seven unanswered runs and taking 7-0 lead over the Lions after three innings. The Lions responded in the fifth inning as
Cash Balentine homered to the right field and driving
Morgan Crenshaw and
Nolan Riley in for three RBIs.
Following that UAFS gave up another two runs before Marcinkowski started a complete comeback for the Lions as he homered to the right center and drove
Caleb Grace in. After that Lions scored two more unearned runs (Balentine and Kalina) before
Caleb Grace concluded the game with a grand-slam which put the Lions up by 11-9 which was enough to win the first game of the day.Â
As a team the Lions scored 11 runs on 10 hits in a total of 31 at-bats. UAFS was led by
Caleb Grace with two runs, two hits and four RBIs while
Cash Balentine added two more runs, one hit and three RBIs.Â
Sophomore left-handed pitcher
Janson Graves recorded his first win of the season (1-0) while three other players got to pitch as well.
Noah McClanahan earned his first save of the season as well.Â
Game 2: UAFS 2, Tarleton 6
Following the first game, Tarleton started another game playing at a high level - scoring four runs in the first two innings. The Lions fought back in the third innings as
Caleb Grace scored on
Dylan Hurt's sacrifice fly to center field.
Following that play,
Brooks Sunny singled to right field, allowing
Cash Balentine to score as well. At that point the score was 4-2 for Tarleton, and Texans concluded the game with two homeruns to set the final score already in the fifth inning.Â
As a team, UAFSÂ only scored two runs on five hits in 25 at-bats.
Cooper Van Kooten and
Tyler Lindley pitched three innings each, allowing 11 hits and six runs as a pitching staff for the game.Â
